3 min readWelcome to another entry in our advanced products series. If you’re new here and want to get caught up, check out our Advanced Products Overview. This time we’ll see how to create a bundle product. Once again, we’ll be working in the Broadleaf admin console and checking our progress on our sample storefront. We recommend starting with the Creating a Standard Product post. It serves as an introduction to some of the relevant functionality in the admin.
If you want to follow along, you can sign up for a free demo environment. Simply fill out the form and check your email with instructions on accessing your environment.
This time around, we will walk through creating a bundle product that contains three of our favorite hot sauces. We’ll start by logging into the Broadleaf admin console and navigating to the products screen. Switch over to the “Bundle” tab and choose “Add Bundle.”
As always, we start with the product creation screen. Let’s fill in our required information and click the “Create Product” button. For the bundle, I’m using the following:
You might have noticed we didn’t have to specify a SKU for our bundle. As mentioned in our overview, bundles themselves do not have inventory associated with them and therefore don’t need a SKU code.
As we’ve done previously, let’s go to the “Assets” section and add a primary image. Once that’s done, we’ll preview our changes to make sure everything looks correct.
So once again, what we have is just a standard product. We’ll head back to the admin and add some products to our bundle. Scroll down to the “Bundled Products” section of the product form, and let’s click “Add Included Product.”
Here we can specify if we want to include a product or a specific variation and select the product/variant from the list. We can also add a display order and a label to help drive how the storefront displays this information. The last thing that we can configure is how many of this product are included in the bundle. I’m going to add three products to our bundle, each with a quantity of one.
If we preview our changes now, we should see something like the following:
And, we’re done! As we just saw, creating a bundle product is as easy as selecting which products we want to include.
As with the previous examples, I recommend taking some time to explore some of the other options available to you on the product form. You might also want to check out our post on setting up sale pricing and seeing if you can successfully apply it to your new product.
